When are we going to break ground? I get asked that a lot. I wish I could say, “Tomorrow” or even “Next week”, but the short answer is, “I’m not sure”. So while I can’t say when we will start construction, I can give you a progress report on the new building, for there is real progress happening behind the scenes.
After meeting with and receiving bids from four different contractors, the building committee reported to the board all of the bids and a summary of the presentations of all four contractors and recommended to the board that Harmon Construction of Olathe be our General Contractor. The board approved that recommendation and asked the committee to continue to work with Harmon to lower construction costs. One of the reasons Harmon was selected was their willingness to work with us to lower the construction costs.
One of the ways Harmon has lowered the cost to us is by finding lower bids from subcontractors. To date, they have been able to shave over $60,000 from their original bid. This process continues as we are still seeking other bids from subcontractors from our own pool of resources.
This month's Meet the Member subjects are Ray and Kelsi Burhart. Ray has been an Associate Minister at Adrian Christian Church since May of this year, and he and Kelsi have been married for five months. Kelsi teaches fourth grade at Adrian Elementary School.
Ray is the son of Paul Burhart, ACC's Senior Minister; he has attended ACC for the ten years his family has lived in Adrian. Of Adrian Chrisitian Church, Ray said, "I love how the church is flawed but beautiful; everyone in the church realizes that they're not perfect and they don't judge people."
